Senior Project Manager - Therapeutics

This position represents the Stanford Medicine Strategy Office and interacts daily with executives and senior leaders from the School of Medicine and Stanford Health Care adult hospital. This is a continuing position reporting to the Catalyst Director of Project Management and currently has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
This role is hybrid; with work at a primary Stanford location in the Bay Area three days per week and telecommuting options. We hope you will join us!
In this role, you will:
- Be responsible for every aspect of project management: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Independently lead and direct projects requiring high levels of functional integration and involving multiple disciplines.
- Lead in a matrixed fashion, many different roles across many different organizations.
- Budget and manage $1M projects, including developing action plans and estimating resource requirements
- Create alignment and engagement from all parties. Requires the ability to think creatively in nuanced situations and lead the discussion in real-time to favorable outcomes for all parties.
- Develop and help execute a comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders. Identify, engage with and create aligned plans with all levels of stakeholders for each unique project. Stakeholders will include Stanford Health Care EVPs, clinic operational staff, Principal Investigators, core project team, and executive management including Catalyst Executive Leadership.

Typical duties for this level position include:
- Lead the planning and operations for programs or functions that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.
- Evaluate programs or functions, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.
- Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.
- Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. Represent the program or function at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
- Manage and contribute to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance.
- May develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
- Assess training needs and may develop associated training.
- May direct and/or supervise staff.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong experience with therapeutic development, including large molecules, small molecules, or cell/gene therapies.
- Deep understanding of leading-edge and emerging technologies relevant to biomedical research.
- Executive presence, able to partner, negotiate, and influence c-suite caliber partners as well as SoM/SHC executives.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and prioritize key initiatives for a team.
- Creative, analytical thinker, detail-oriented.
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to productively assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
- Ability to balance customer expectations with project reality.
- Demonstrative diplomatic capabilities.
- Keen grasp of interpersonal and impact awareness.
- Science background preferred over business background
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Bachelor's degree in a science or business field and five years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of drug development ideally with a product that has progressed from bench to pre-clinical or clinical validation.
- Experience in therapeutic projects with extensive size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines
- Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness
- Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and decision-making skills with an ability to approach problems logically and systematically
- Demonstrated ability to develop and meet budget goals
- Demonstrated solid accurate planning and organizational skills with attention to detail and an ability to multi-task
- Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team in a matrixed, highly collaborative environment
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with senior management and executives as well as with individuals with varying expertise and backgrounds
- Strong relevant subject matter knowledge
- Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand, twist/bend/stoop/squat and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
- Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.
