TheDepartmentofAnesthesiology,PerioperativeandPainMedicine,atStanfordUniversity’sSchoolofMedicine,isaworld-leading department that offers comprehensive training and perioperative patient care, pain management, and critical care medicine as well as cutting edge research, encompassing a wide spectrum of programs in basic, translational, clinical, health services and medical education.

The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at Stanford University is seeking a Data Analyst 1 to be under general direction, process a wide variety of analytical data and produce routine, single data sources’ information requests. This Data AnalystIpositionisafull-timepositionandacommitmentofatleasttwoyearsisrequired.TheDataAnalystIwillbeworkingona team to help us understand how anesthesia and critical care and brain health influences patient outcomes.The position will involve data analytic components as well as experiences in the clinical environment to understand howdifferent aspects of clinical care may relate to patient outcomes.

The Data Analyst I should have experience with computer programming and data analysis languages such as SQL, R, Python, and/or MATLABandbecompetentusingtheLinuxoperatingsystem.TheyshouldholdatleastBachelor’sDegreeinElectricalEngineering, BiomedicalEngineering,ComputerScience,Biostatistics,ComputationalNeuroscienceorrelatedfields.Theyshouldhaveinterestin machine learning, clinical and biomedical research, neuroscience, and medicine. The Data Analyst I will work under the supervision of Postdoctoral Fellows to apply novel methods for signal processing and machine learning analysis of EEG data, for clinical and basic neuroscience applications.The Data Analyst I will also work under the supervision of Postdoctoral Fellows to use statistical models to understand the relationships between brain health and patient outcomes.The Data Analyst I must be able to work effectively on a team, as well as independently. The Data Analyst I must demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational skills and time management. Further, the Data Analyst I must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Dutiesinclude:

  • Identify and select usable data from subtle and complex data patterns. Assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information(reports,charts,graphsandtables)fromstructureddatasourcesbyqueryingdatarepositoriesandgeneratingthe associated information.
  • Designmethodstovalidatedatatoensurehighqualityproduct.Explorecreativeapproachtousingdatabasedontechnical expertiseofavailabledata.Distributereportstoapplicableagencies,researchers,managementandotherinternalend-users and provide interpretation of data when needed.
  • Developandproducedashboards,keyperformanceindicators,andotherrecognizedmetricsusedtomonitorandreport organizational performance. Collect and analyze metric data.
  • Collect,manageandcleandatasetsusinganextractionandreportingprogramminglanguagetoensuredataintegrity.
  • Researchandreconciledatadiscrepanciesoccurringamongvariousinformationsystemsandreports.
  • Collaboratewithdatamanagerstodefineandimplementdatastandardsandcommondataelementsfordatacollection.
  • Identifynewsourcesofdataandmethodstoimprovedatacollection,analysisandreporting.
  • Maytestprototypesoftwareandparticipateinapprovalandreleaseprocessfornewsoftware.

EDUCATION&EXPERIENCE(REQUIRED):

Bachelor'sdegreeoracombinationofeducationandrelevantexperience.Experienceinaquantitativedisciplinesuchaseconomics, finance, statistics or engineering.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLSANDABILITIES(REQUIRED):

  • Basicknowledgeanddemonstratedexperienceusingandapplyinganalyticalsoftware,databasemanagementsystem software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software.
  • Abilitytocollectdatausingavarietyofmethods,suchasdataminingandhardcopyorelectronicdocumentationstudy,to improve or expand databases.
  • Stronglistening,verbalandwrittencommunicationskills.
  • Abilitytomanagemultipleactivitiesinadeadline-orientedenvironment;highlyorganized,flexibleandrigorousattentionto detail.
  • Abilitytouselogictocalculatedata;efficientlyconstructadatabaseorscrutinizetheformofaquestion.
  • Abilitytoworkwithdataofvaryinglevelsofqualityandvalidity.
  • Demonstratedabilitytoproducedatainaclearandunderstandablemannermeetinguserrequirements.
  • Abilitytoworkeffectivelywithmultipleinternalandexternalcustomers.

Theexpectedpayrangeforthispositionis$82,468 to $106,256 perannum.

StanfordUniversityprovidespayrangesrepresentingitsgoodfaithestimateofwhattheuniversityreasonablyexpectstopay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
